      sky+ hd box recording

      My first ever post so be patient with me...I have just bought a sky+ hd box to use in spare room (for free channels) , I set it to single feed mode and for the past week I have been able to record(I dont have multi room or phone line connected) is this normal or will it stop recording at some stage

      It is unusual. Do you have a viewing card with the STB? If you do, then it is possible that it is still current.

      Don't think about recording something for keeps though as it is likely that after a short period the STB won't be able to play back or record.

      I put an old viewing card(blue card yellow house) I had in a drawer from years ago so it definately is not current I have switched of at mains took card out on again card in and it still lets me record,I was really just curious before I bought another box for another room,.
      as you say I will record things I want to definately watch on my living room box....thank you anyway

      I think you will find that when your card is checked by Sky, which they do at regular intervals, it will be disabled. This is done by satellite, so it does not matter whether your phone is plugged in or not. I would not base your decision whether to buy another box on what is happening at the moment on your existing box .

      I remember a long time ago in Sky Analogue days our flats were having scaffolding up for 6 months. It covered my dish so I cancelled sky for that period. When it came down my Sky was still working so I thought brilliant FREE SKY but this lasted for about 10 days. I guess this check was carried out and then the channels cancelled so I had to resubscribe.
      Post Sky DLM and after some cowboy contracters and BT ruined my line quality (was 6mb pre DLM):
