Cancelled Sports but still have to pay for a month

Hi, I received a sky sports package offer of half price for 3 months starting in January '11. I phoned to cancel it last wed. the 8th and was told my next bill would be 23 euro as I cancelled it a few days earlier than the deal was until. However my next bill came today and was 61 euro. I contacted sky and their response was I need to give 31 days notice to cancel sports and that was why the bill was 61. But when I spoke to the lady to cancel it last week there was no mention of this rule, she specifically said my next bill would be 23 euro. Should my sports be cancelled as soon as I ring ? Any help on this matter would be grately appreciated, thanks

No, you must give a months notice to change any package.

Thanks, is this a new policy? as I've had sky tv for about 5 years and regularly subscribe and cancel my sports package during the year and have never had to give a months notice

As far as I am aware it has been in force for some time if not always. You can upgrade any package instantly but to downgrade or cancle requires notice.

It came in last April, to make it harder for the 'cancel football for the summer' people.
