      New sky Q box

The telegraph are reporting a new set top box is on its way, called the Sky Q and due to be announced within weeks.
      http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...t-top-box.html
Saying it will be announced on or after the 29th when Sky year end results are announced, if the story is correct.

Looks to be a big improvement from what we have now, the project ethan finally arriving.
Great to have the recording and viewing across four devices in the home, but expect that will be some sort of multiscreen or sky go add on extra cost.
Not sure exactly what the side loading rights issue entails.

What would be nice too, is if like Virgin the box was free to all subscribers, rather than paying a one off and only a 12 month warranty deal and then a callout to fix. yes there is the D&G extra warranty thing, but that's too expensive.

The new box will be wireless only so I'm hearing, but makes sense if its redoing the current multiscreen way.

5Ghz wireless I wonder....oh wait no of course not, as Sky routers don't support that either!!

This seems to me that regardless of why this new Sky Q TV box comes with, it's going to be limited by Sky's shoddy broadband routers.

      Hello All
Have just read this report in the telegraph but no info on the Sky Website : If all
the details in the paper are right it appears to have most if not all the gizmo's

that we have wanted for quite a while now : But my only fear is how much will
this cost us the customer !! Sure of one thing they wont be a Free upgrade !!
New customers may get one as an incentive but Sky will wan
      t to recoup the
      investment from someone .............
      Just a Thought :

      Re: New sky Q box

Hopefully some of the functionality and UI style will be fed back to existing boxes by way of a firmware upgrade as new and old boxes will have to work alongside each other for the next few years.

Wireless only would be very silly, even if it's AC & 5Ghz.

      I want my ethernet!

The Mini-WiFi adaptor DOES support the 5GHz band. I'm not sure about the DRX89xW/WL range, but I wouldn't be too fast to rule it out.
