      Yea. Just hope it's not the electrolytic capacitors in my Sky box.

      As the 5GHz signals don't travel as far as the 2.4GHz signals and they are faster, there shouldn't be as many issues with the 5GHz channels as there are with the 2.4GHz channels.

      Re: New sky Q box

      Sharp has just announced the launch of an 8K TV for sale from October, so if the proposed Sky Q box is only 4K, then it will already be out of date before it is even launched.

      However at a suggest cost of £68,000 for the Sharp TV, then it is unlikely that there will be many customers for it.

      I think I'll order 3, one for the lounge, one for the bedroom and one for the toilet.

      Re: New sky Q box

      A couple of good recent articles related to this.
      The new 4k disk format on its way, a discussion with Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) here
      An interview with the UHD Alliance about their inception, their current goals and their ultimate ambitions here

      Interesting mentions of Sky and made me smile no mention of BT;
      But broadcasters they don’t have that colour grading step right, it’s live so they have to figure out how to do that in a sports broadcast, so we have to work with them to figure out how this is going to work in a truck. How they setup their cameras, how they setup the lighting - like if it’s a football game for example and the sun comes around, how do you deal with the lighting changes throughout the game as it progresses and so on. There’s a number of questions that are open right now, so we’re talking to a number of broadcasters in Europe as well as in the US and elsewhere, to invite them in to start that discussion. I think we’re seeing a lot of interest, so tomorrow we’re meeting with a group called FAME which is the Forum for Advanced Media in Europe and there’s lot of European broadcasters including the BBC and BSKYB, so all these guys are there.

      Re: New sky Q box

      I was going to speculate that the running offer of free 2Tb box for all new customers currently was Sky dumping old tech boxes but having looked at recent cancels (at the end of the first year) lots of them have free 2Tb offers. So it's just the offer they do at this time for the last 3 years although it's more widely available this year so it may be stock dumping to an extent....

      I doubt they'd get rid of the Sky+HD2TB boxes instantly, chances are they'll keep any new box as a 'premium' box for a while before making it the norm. Similar to what happened with Sky+ and Sky+HD.
