Price of Sky TV packages to increase June 2015

The details are as yet unconfirmed, but there are a few threads elsewhere on the Internet claiming the prices and details to be true.

All bundles will rise by £3.50
      Movies will rise by £2.50
      Sports will rise by £5.50
      Multiroom to rise by £2.50

No doubt the increase for the Sports package is to cover Sky's huge bid for the football rights, but the whole lot is quite large and will be a few months early when compared to previous years.

On reflection, wouldn't that breach the max 10% limit in the T&Cs?

I make it potentially up by £12.50 if you have the Sky World package. That will hurt!

Just looking at my own and it could rise by as much as £8.50. That will hurt me too.

Those prices were from someone joking on digital spy, in response to the text that has gone up on the official sky site today.

Sky TV prices will change on 1 June. In accordance with our standard terms, your Sky TV package may rise by up to 10% in a minimum contract term.
Odd that they are changing tv package prices in June, normally September, many will not be happy to get two price increases in a year.

      The actual Term is
In your minimum term TV/Sky+/Sky HD and Multiscreen prices may increase once by up to 10% of the standard price or the increase in the UK Retail Price Index, whichever is greater.
However it does not say by how much they can increase when your minimum period is up. They can probably raise the price as much as they want.

I would not worry to much about what comes out of DS, they do have a history of stirring things up.

Re: Price of Sky TV packages to increase June 2015

Thanks for clarifying the original source. As mentioned in my first post, this is currently unconfirmed.

I have heard from other sources that there is a price rise on the cards, but no details at this time.

The reason for the 10% for those in contract is a legal one. Basically under normal conditions they wouldn't be able to cancel. However if Sky were to raise the prices by more than 10% whilst they are in contract then they can say "adiós amigo".

For anyone who has been with Sky and is out of contract, then they can cancel at any time.

Re: Price of Sky TV packages to increase June 2015

It would appear to be an ideal time to level the playing field. Increase the standard price by less than 10%, to satisfy the in-contract clause but remove the legacy discounts some existing customers receive as a result of the last package rationalisation.

I still think Sky payed silly money for the football rights and now its customers are reaping the (benefits) consequences.

Is there still a £5 premium on adsl broadband for not having sky tv?
I can't find mention of it anywhere on the website.

I believe that was dropped some time back.

Certainly it isn't on their Fibre products.
