Price & package changes coming soon

*** Rumour Alert from multiple sources ***

It looks like Sky are finally breaking the HD Pack into two smaller packs. 5 will allow you to see the Entertainment & Entertainment Extra HD channels, provided that you subscribe to them. An extra 5.25 will allow you to see the Sky Sports and/or Sky Movie HD channels. Again you will need to subscribe to the relevant channels too.

In addition there are changes to who can or cannot view the F1 Channel. If you already subscribe to the HD Pack, then you will be unaffected. Any new customers will need to subscribe to the Sky Sports Pack.

On top of all this a new pack will be launched. Extra+ will allow people who do not subscribe to the Sky World Pack for the first tome to view the Sky 3D channel. This will also include a subscription to the relevant HD channels. There is also some talk that the Extra+ Pack will give you access to some other areas.

All these changes are likely to come out some time between the end of this month and May.

Any noise on whether or not the base packs will also go up from 21.50 & 26.50 per month respectively?

I'm wondering if this is a clever marketing ploy to promote as an effective price cut for existing subscriber? Plus it also makes it a little more tempting to upgrade to HD if you don't have it already.

Re: Price & package changes coming soon

I've heard nothing yet about a price change for the other packs, but will remain vigilant.

As for the marketing ploy, I would agree with you, but there again I think it would be inviting for many who have a HD TV but do not yet have the HD Pack.

It also places a basic package, with HD channels, just below VM's similar offering.

Someone on Digital Spy who comes from a reliable source has said similar things in a cryptic way. So I suppose its looking likely.

Good find! I think that takes it out of the Rumour mill.

I find this bit interesting -
Sky customers with the new pack and a 3D TV will even be able to sample entertainment shows on Sky 3D
When he says 'sample' does he mean you will be able to watch in 3D or just see trailers?

Will you be able to watch in 3D if you pay the full 10.25?

Hmmm. Entertainment Extra+ for 31.50 per month - so that must be Entertainment Extra at 26.50 permonth plus 5 for the 45 HD channels in that pack as rumoured.

Article posted on Sky Views at 14:00 today.

As an Entertainment pack (not Entertainment Extra pack) customer, it doesn't appeal to me.

It will certainly be interesting to know what content will be available to see in 3D.

I would guess that if you don't subscribe to the Sports & Movies Packs then you won't see those in 3D.

What I would like to know is if you can watch Movies in 3D if you were to subscribe to the Movies & HD Packs though. This would be a major improvement IMHO.

The word 'sample' bothers me. Surely if they were going to make 3D available to the various packs they would just have said it is free with HD. I am pretty sure the requirement of having Sky World has put many off 3D.

The only sensible way I can see for Sky to do this is to introduce a second Sky 3D channel which does not contain movies and sports content other than trailers. To do it any other way would only cause confusion as subscribers to "lesser" 3D would be presented with a caption to call Sky to upgrade their package if they switched to the 3D channel when sport or movies were being shewn.
