Free HD Subs For Some Customers With More Than One HD Box And No HD Subscription?

Totally Unofficial - But from more than one reliable source.

Following on from the rumour the other week, The HD Subscription Rumour

      The rumour is,

Sky are offering FREE HD subs to existing Sky customers who have at least 1 compatible box and do not have HD mix already, as long as they have 2 or more multiroom boxes.

They've already contacted some customers about it and have added the subs on, and will be adding more on in batches.

Customers upgrading to have multiple boxes will NOT get the offer, at least not straight away. At the moment, it's only those from before a date (Sept 23rd if I remember right) that are eligible, and it's being done in batches to make it easier. However there is the chance that anyone upgrading after that date will not be eligible at all, this is not yet confirmed.

Advisers cannot add the offer on, it's being dealt with by a specific team so anyone looking for it will have to wait till they're contacted. There is also no way for you to register to be put in the next batch, it's all being managed by Sky.

If someone decides they don't want it, they cannot pre-opt out. They must wait till they are contacted and the subs added on before it can be removed, even though it will be free.

No contracts will be made due to this, so customers can still cancel if they wish.

      Just for clarification...

The title says, 'More than One HD box', but the text says '2 or more multiroom boxes'.

So how many boxes must we already have? 2 (or more) or 3 (or more)?

      i.e.

2 boxes (Main box + 1 or more multiroom addons) or
3 boxes (Main box + 2 or more multiroom addons)

I know it's just a rumour but I hope they do something for existing multiroom customers because I'm not sure if Sky realise their customers talk to each other sometimes.

If they start handing out free HD subs to new multiroom customers but ignore their existing ones I will not be happy. So much so that I would probably cancel Multiroom and just use a Freesat box in there instead.

Depending how you look at it, this is pretty much a continuation of the original rumour, (which was eventually told to us it had been scrapped as an idea) the difference being, that there is more than one source this time.

But there is more information given this time round, which would suggest that the first rumour may have actually been correct.

Looking at it from a different persepective, it could be the start of free HD subs for all?

If Sky considers VM TiVo to be their comparable competitor, then free HD subs for all would make sense as an ultimate goal (given that VM don't seem to charge extra for TiVo customers to view HD channels).

I hope so. Free HD for certain upgraders but not existing customers with the same package would be indefensible.

In my experience the HD picture quality on the TiVo is very poor compared to Sky, I'm not surprised they offer it for free!

Ah! Maybe that's why they don't charge extra then?

Re: Free HD Subs For Some Customers With More Than One HD Box And No HD Subscription?

So what happens to those of use who have been paying for HD subs (and multiple HD subs before last year) on multi-room packages for years though? This just reads as if it an offer for customers who don't already have HD?
