I wonder if that's a taxable benefit in kind.

How can you accuse Sky staff of being greedy, that's way out of line. Its a perk of the job, just as employees of M&S or Tesco etc get a heavy discount on their purchases. Expecting something for nothing, that's greedy.

Maybe not free but they have just emailed us and offered entertainment extra with HD & 3D for 2.50pm.

If I had a 3D tv or could see much difference in HD I'd take them up on it.

Go look on the Virgin website. You won't see any Free HD channels. They don't give you the ones you get Free on Sky without paying them a fee, like BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, CH4, CH5, NHK World, Russia Today.

The minimum package that includes the HD subscription channels is 37, whereas on Sky it's 31.50, still a rip-off?

Also just how many HD channels do you get with VM? I haven't looked for a while but I guess that the number has uncreased, just as it has with Sky.

Depending which Sky package you have and which extras you have too, it is possible to access 69 HD channels and one 3D channel, plus one SBO HD channel, one demo HD channel and one Sky staff HD channel. That is a current total of 73. It used to also be possible to tune in to some of the regional variations of IT, which would increase the selection a little. Sadly this isn't possible with sky at the present time as the frequency is ouch of reach of the manual tuning.

Ultimately it is up to us, the customers, to decide which package is right for us. Sky TV isn't for everyone, but then nor is VM. We each have a right to decide and choose what we want to see.

yeah I maybe worded my post wrong what as was meaning to say is with hd becoming the norm why do sky feel the need to charge I cant get my head around the fact I can understand it in the early days but with hd taking off there should be a charge for 3d tho as not many people have it and 3D broadcasts a limted to a few that can afford to pay for a 3d set by charging those few customers maybe it will allow the cost to be put into expending the 3D side of things

paying for HD is like charging someone to pay more to use hot water than cold ( maybe they do I dunno ;0)

The BBC has always charged more for a colour TV license (currently 145.50) than a Black & white TV license (currently 49). I don't see them getting pulled over the coals for this specific difference, even though most people now will have to have a colour license.

Well it's a nice income stream for them, just as the Sky+ subscription charge was too. Until they can come up with another whizz bang item to replace the lost income, I can't see it being dropped for all customers anytime soon.
