I'm afraid you're incorrect. To qualify for this you need to have a HD box as your primary box (without a HD subscription) and at least two Multiroom boxes. So basically, if you have at least 3 boxes in your house with no HD subscription then you may get this offer. There is also NO point cancelling your HD subscription if you have 3 boxes in the house thinking you will get this offer, because you won't.

Remember this is getting done in batches. No staff member has access to this offer and Sky are writing to individual customers advising they are getting the HD subs for free for being a loyal customer. There is no guarantee that every customer who has at least 3 boxes will get this offer so there is no point upgrading your subscription to another Multiroom box just to get this offer.

If you have been lucky enough to get this offer then should you remove one of your Multiroom boxes, this offer will be lost.

I saw this offer on an account the other day and it had an expiry date of 2095 so I believe that at some point in the next year or so, HD subs will be a thing of the past, just like the Sky+ subs.

Just had a look at my bill, the HD Pack is no longer listed separately and is now under 'Entertainment Extra HD' so maybe a further sign of changes afoot .

Richy Rich is correct, you have to have at least one HD box with no HD subscription and two multiroom boxes to be eligible for the free HD offer.

Re: Free HD Subs For Some Customers With More Than One HD Box And No HD Subscription?

So if you have an HD box and 2 multi rooms you will not get HD free unless you are not already paying a HD sub? I honestly can't see that there will be many households with 3 Sky boxes who don't have an HD subscription, especially as one payment covers all. Looks like a gimmick that will cost Sky next to nothing..

It's easier for them to roll out HD for free to those who don't have it, as they will be added the new subscription to these accounts. Eventually this will be rolled out to existing customers who have more than one MR subscription AND HD, and then eventually to all customers.

It's much easier to add a new subscription type to those who dont have any HD subscription than to remove every single HD subscribers current sub and then ADD the new one.

So are you saying that Sky do have plans for everyone to have free HD subs, eventually?

If they follow their usual procedure they will show it as a charge on one part of the account with a credit for the amount later in the account. That way it will show the few hundred that will be effected that they are really getting something for nothing.

Re: Free HD Subs For Some Customers With More Than One HD Box And No HD Subscription?

They wouldn't have to add a new one though would they. If they simply just stopped charging for HD, people who already had it would be happy and those who wanted it could than add it. The way it's working now Sky are basically giving it to people for free who have never asked for it and therefore probably didn't want it in the first place anyway.

I'm saying that if you think about it logically, they are adding subscriptions to those that don't already have it... and then once everyone has it they can switch it to 'free' - you'll start seeing new customers getting free HD also I bet.

Usually how it works, you end up seeing a credit on your bill and being amazed..
