That's what I have always found unfair about the HD charge. If you are paying for HD channels then your package shouldn't matter, you should get all the HD channels as that's what you are paying for rather than some customers getting more for their he sub than others.

If it was me personally I would make HD standard and increase the package costs to offset the lost revenue. People would notice it less, each person would pay less for hd and everyone would have it

I don't follow that. You get what you are paying for, no one gets more for the same sub, unless they have a discount of course. If you don't pay the HD sub you don't get the HD channels, simple.

If you take the viewing card out can you get channel 178?

Where Tom is STV HD isn't available.

According to your profile you are in the same TV area as myself, so you should be able to get it.

The only drawback that I found out recently is that Meridian TV has 3 sub-regions. ITV1 HD is available across the whole area, but they only show content from Meridian East (Kent/East Sussex). so the local news looks a little odd. We're in the Meridian West area.

I think what he is referring to is that the charge is the same (10.25) regardless of what package you are on, so someone on Entertainment Extra pays the same as some one on Sky World for HD, but gets around half the number of HD channels.

Some people look at it and think well, if the charge is for access to HD content and I pay the same as everyone else, why can't I access all the HD content? Well, because Sky want you to take Sky World that's why, so they make it appear best value to have everything, but I see and understand the angle and can fully understand why people don't want to to pay the same for less, even though content is tied to your package, not the HD charge.

It all depends on you the person I guess.

I pay the HD charge, and don't have the Movie or Sports channels as I cancelled them last year. I also retook out the HD subs purely for F1 - The fact I can watch all the rest is a bonus the way I look at it. I still feel that I am getting my monies worth.

Theoretically, Sky could reduce the subs for people not on Sky World, as the content is less in HD as people are pointing out, as they don't have to pay royalties to the studios I guess for those that don't watch the premium channels.

      If F1 ever changes and you have to get Sports to watch it;

      1) I wouldn't get Sports I don't think
      2) I would probably cancel the HD subscription as well

I always try and watch stuff that I can in HD but its not that important to me I guess. I could do without it.

According to the drop down in the online TV guide there are 8 different channel selections for the Meridian region; East, North, South & South East (all with or without HD).
Do Sky have a page on any of their websites where you can input your postcode to check which regional variations you should receive?

HD is a must for me, I struggle to watch anything that isn't in HD anymore. But i agree with others the more of the channels you take the cheaper the HD sub should be

Ok, there are more variations of Meridian than I thought then.

I don't know where you would find all the relevant information for which regional variations you can expect. I know that on Freeview I get ITV1 from Meridian (South) and ITV1 HD from Meridian (East). The coverage maps of all the different main terrestrial broadcasters is determined by the transmitters, but each transmitter varies a little.

If you want to check which variation you should expect, then I would suggest taking a look at the respective websites of each broadcaster. At the same time some members have reported issues with the Sky database from time to time.

      Re: The HD Subscription Rumour

Maybe our source was misinformed about the fact it was not going to happen, because it certainly looks like something is on the cards.

Thread now closed in favour of this one.

Free HD Subs For Some Customers With More Than One HD Box And No HD Subscription?
