      Re: ROUTER NIGHTMARE! pls help!

Turning uPNP off fixed mine for about 3 month's then it all went boobs up for some non apparent reason, I had a second router that Sky sent by mistake and as they haven't asked for it back I decided to keep it for a spare, tried that one still same problems, After alot of frustration I went out out brought the cheapest router I could find 30, put that on and it has run fine for the last 6 weeks. Bit fiddly trying to extact my user name and password from the Sky router but done it. Friday I was bored so I decided to flash the spare Sky router back to Netgear firmware, Have had that running for the last 3 days and all seems fine! and I am getting better noise margin figures, very weird. I am aware it is against Sky T&C's but I still have the original router intact if I ever have to call them out. And I am logging in using the user name and password from the original router so hopefully they wont be able to tell.

      Re: ROUTER NIGHTMARE! pls help!

Your user name and password are hidden in the router by Sky to stop you tampering and are not visible within the menu, this is different to most routers. But is possible to extract them if you search this forum for "username/password" all the instructions are there. I wouldn't recommend flashing the firmware until you have exhausted all other possibilitys because the flash proccess can go wrong and you can wreck the router! I only did it because I have a spare, but again all the instructions are within the forum.

Very wise move, I did the same and tried my old router but I actually prefer the Sky one.

The most common channels are 1, 6 and 11, but if you can't pick up anyone else's router I shouldn't worry too much about it.

Yeah i heard about channels 1, 6 and 11 but can i use any of the other ones? my wireless adapter picks up another 2 sky routers close by + several other belkin and talk talk. I thought at the start that this was one of the reasons why i could not pick up my own router very easily!!!

On the subject of other peoples routers on the same channel, I would suggest you download netstumbler Downloads | NetStumbler.com this software will scan and show any nearby routers and which channels they are using. I had an issue with the wireless side of my router and found this handy.
