Arrow Sky Router keeps Freezing/locking up!!

      Hi Guys,

Well, this is my first ever post having signed up 3 mins ago!

Im on MAX package and the speed is great (Im getting DOUBLE the speed and paying HALF the price of my rubbish former ISP,COUGH*tiscali*COUGH)

BUT IM HAVING A PROBLEM! [NB: THIS IS NOT A WIRELESS ISSUE] :-

Sometimes my SKY router just locks up....I cant access it through either UPNP link in "My Network" OR "192.168.0.1" page (i get "device not available" msg). And more over i loose ability to access internet too when these lock-ups occur !!

At this time all usual green lights are as normal though (connection LED)

ALSO when i try hittng the system reset on rear the Orange tick just stays orange!!.

At the moment the only way to cure problem is to cut the power and restart the router.......I think i may have a faulty Sky router on my hands but has anyone else had this problem???

Cheers people.......Again this is NOT a wireless issue

      Welcome to the forum

The tick should only appear briefly when the router is booted and then disappear. If it stays lit then there is definitely something wrong. I suspect that would indicate a router fault. You need to call Sky to get this resolved.

If you mean it flashes orange before disappearing then that's normal.

If not a router fault then your connection problem could be down to several issues. This is obviously not a rule but an indication of likelihood:
      • Regular, disconnections (typically every 15 min) = UPnP bug
      • Regular same times of day disconnections (typically evenings) = dropping noise margin
      • Irregular, random (can be very frequent or ad hoc disconnections) = cable fault, other noise burst or overheating/faulty router

If the first then you should disable UPnP in your router then reboot both PC and router. If the second then see the first sticky in my signature for two solutions.

Re: Sky Router keeps Freezing/locking up!!

Same problem here. Has been better the last couple of days though.

Emailed Sky Technical and got this reply.

Thank you for contacting Broadband Technical Support.

The steps I have listed below should help with the intermittent nature of your connection.

Change the micro filter the router is connected to.
Please remove your extension cables and connect to the master socket.
Remove any devices that are connected to the phone line e.g. fax machines, digiboxes, cordless phones etc
Please try to connect to your pc/laptop via the yellow Ethernet cable if you are currently using a wireless connection
If there is no improvement try connecting to the test socket. You can tell whether or not you have a test socket by checking if you have a horizontal line across the centre of your master socket face plate. If this is the case then please unscrew the two small screws, removing the face plate and connect to the test socket located on the left hand side. Please ensure that you connect the micro filter into the test socket and then connect the broadband box into the micro filter via the grey telephone cable.

This is a BT recommended Test so it is safe to do.

If this fails, then could I ask you to give us a call on 08705 515515 Option 1 then Option 3 as it seems we might need to run some speed tests to determine exactly what the issue is.

I do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

      Kind Regards,

      Broadband Technical Support

The really annoying thing is that with the UPnP bug the tech support folk don't have it as one of the things to check for on their scripts.

Re: Sky Router keeps Freezing/locking up!!

      hi Guys

      Hi @ Mr Saturday(?)

I tried disabling UPnP, as per your help, and have found that when i do this the router does NOT freeze up any more!!!

I have read on other posts that these SKY Routers have some kind of Bug with UPnP......So I think its same here with mine and it seems to have been causing my router to freeze up at (But at random times).

However this sucks because doin this, i cant use DC++ and Azeures properly, as without UPnP enabled, they start to moan at me....!!

ANOTHER PROBLEM guys is that i have a general problem with UPnP and windows........Every time i use it, After a while the UPnP link between Windows XP and my Router just breaks down........This used to happen with my past two routers (D-Link & Netgear) and same with Sky router

Why doesnt UPnP just work and stay working!?! I dont get it......I bump up the UPnP refresh rate on the router to MAX settings and still this happens.......Please can anyone shed any Light??

      Many Thanks guys.

Can't help you with getting UPnP to work but you don't need it with Azureus - see this guide.

DC++ guide here. BTW, the address reservation feature in the router saves having to use a fixed IP if you want to continue to use DHCP.

Re: Sky Router keeps Freezing/locking up!!

      Hi Guys,

Well i decided to give up on UPnP all together - Its one of these things thats sooo good if only it actually worked - For me UPnP has been a complete flop.

Im now researching Port Forwarding and setting Static IPs on my 3 machines at home

In which case, can anyone give me info on Port forwarding Sky Routers for P2P progs like Azeures and DC++ .......Many thanks
