      Avg antivirus works fine with Sky. I would point the finger at macafee, get rid of it as best you can and use a different firewall to go with your AVG.

      thanks for the extra replies/info everyone i will read & inwardly digest them in a mo'.

      i emailed skybb tech support on my little problem, nowhere in my email did i mention the sky portal but this is the reply i've received -

      "Can you go to Sky.com - Home. Click on My Sky at the top of the page where you will see a box with spaces to enter login details, type in your username.
      Click on password help I need to start again, but this time enter your
      password, Click on username help section and follow the instructions."

      now i appreciate that i'm a bit of a novice where these things are concerned, but what has that got to do with the netgear interface?!

      i await any further info from the vast experts on here & prepare my in anticipation, or not!

      E mail tech help and tell them router is dead no lights smoke blown fuses in the house.....and you need a replacement

      thanks for this info & the other links - i've just tried a reboot this way but it stayed on the power & test lights flashing for over 10 mins & nothing else. (i was worried it had just got 'stuck' so i just unplugged the power & it rebooted back up straight away). should it stay with those 2 lights flashing for so long? if yes, i'll try again!

      i tried the release & renew options on ipconfig but that didn't make any difference either...

      it's odd but when i try the admin/sky combination on the log in page, after 3 attempts it defaults to the 'authorisation failed, pls contact network admin etc'. when i enter what i'm sure are my new details, it just gets stuck & won't do anything, no matter how many times i enter the info.

      onwards & upwards eh? at least i'm learning lots about my PC that i never knew existed!!

      thanks for the suggestion Andy - i just disabled mcafee firewall & enabled the xp one instead, which made no difference. tried with no firewall at all, still no good & the same when i disable AVG anti-virus & anti-spyware too...

      don't ask me how, but i have access to the router interface again!

      i thought i'd see if my Wii could go online, using the new ssid/key i'd set up, if not, i'd know the router had been reset & it was something on my PC that was causing the problem.

      i did one more reboot with the reset button, Wii couldn't go online, tried a final time on my PC just for the sake of it!, & admin/sky worked!!

      slightly weird...
