Can I boost the signal from my Router to my Laptop

      Hi,

I've got my router upstairs on one side of the house and use the wireless connection on my laptop downstairs on the other side of the house. From if i go towards the back of the house it says the signal goes low and eventually drops off so it has to reconnect etc etc....

Now don't get me wrong, my house is no mansion (standard 4 bed size) but I thought these wireless routers had a good range on them.

Is there any kind of booster i can buy to increase the signal, so i'm not restricted to the living room?

I just put "improving WiFi connections" in Google. The first item is Microsoft's suggestions which has several suggestions.

Re: Can I boost the signal from my Router to my Laptop

The default antenna on the Netgear router is poor IMO (only giving out something like 2db !!!).

I had the same problem as the OP when my Wii could only get a very low signal despite being only 2 rooms away from the router.

As reddwarfcrew says, the best option is to get a better antenna (I now have a 9db one) ... my Wii now always reports a very high signal from the router
