5 to 10 seconds max connection

      Hi,

What a great forum this is hope you can help me.

I've been struggling for the last week to get a steady connection.

I can connect to the internet after powering on the router for 5 - 10 seconds before my pc says i have lost my network connection, as this happens lights 1 2 3 4 flash together. The router then goes through various stages of flashing all the lights but it never gets a green internet light unless i turn the router off and on.

I can't get onto http://192.168.0.1 after it goes into its flashing mode.

I've tried it in the master socket with no improvement and with all the filters.

I've called the customer service number a couple of times and am waiting for a tier 3 call. Can any of you guys help?

I know this has probably all been covered before but I can't seem to find it.

Lights flashing like that strongly suggests a router fault to me.

Re: 5 to 10 seconds max connection

Thanks for the swift responce Saturday.

Just noticed that i may have misled people with the title of this thread. I'm not on max I'm on Base.

Can I test this with my brothers router?
Hes on Max and at an address on the other side of the city, will i have any problem using his box if he'll let me have it.
Is it just a case of plugging his in or are their any setting that will change and ruin the router for him?

Re: 5 to 10 seconds max connection

      That's an interesting question

We know that each Sky router has a user name and password hidden within it. What we don't know is whether these are tied to a particular phone line.

In theory you can use any router but a) you'd be breaking Sky's T&Cs and b) you'd need to know your (hidden) user name and password. Using your brother's router will not break the T&Cs and you don't need to know his details as they are already in the router.

By all means try it - just plug it in. I don't personally believe it can do any harm and you'd be adding to the forum knowledge

However, I should stress that this is my personal opinion and should not be read as a Skyuser recommendation or endorsement.

      Disclaimer!

Try this at your own risk! Skyuser cannot and will not be held responsible if you take this course of action and you BOTH end up with no connection!

afaik the router is not tied to the line, but Sky know which router you should have.

Re: 5 to 10 seconds max connection

Possibly wise advice but with Sky taking no action (yet) on the many people using a different brand of router it would be somewhat surprising if they took offence at using another Sky router.

But yes, you're of course right, there must of course be some risk.

I'll add the rider that my suggestion was my own opinion and not that of Skyuser.

Might even be more appropriate to try your router at his location.
