      Webserver (minor)

Ok well tomorrow I get my new pc that i will be using to host a few basic HTML sites for friends and family.

      First of i will

      Install xp pro
      install drivers etc
      install IIS
put a htm/html file into the root

but here im not sure as i have a router, will guess

port 80 has to be forwarded to the ip hosting
dhcp setup so i dont need to edit the the forwarding etc

      is that all ?

also what will be the ip to access it? ip:80?

Well anyway will post more stuff tomorrow once i get pc set up etc

      Re: Webserver (minor)

If your PC that is hosting your sites has an IP of 192.168.0.2

You will need to forward PORT 80 to this IP

If you want to check the sites locally, you would use

      127.0.0.1

You should not be able to see the sites by URL or External IP address.

When you have it set up, if you post the URL I am sure loads of us can check for you.

Yep! We will all be willing to test it out, Check DynDNS for a IP exchanger, So you dont need to hand out your IP to everyone!

      BUMP

Okay i said today but it looks like it wont as i got all parts, put them together etc. Then my pc boots up but restarts every 4-6 secs.

      tried resetting cmos
tried different ram / no ram
      every connected / not connected
      different psu

same thing happens, so i guess i have a faulty MOBO

      Gigabyte DQ6
      2.4GHz conroe
      2GB Corsair 6400 5-5-5-12 (XMS2)
      sapphaire ati radeon x1950

anyway i will post back once i get a new mobo if it was the mobo

      BUMP

Okay just got system up and running yay at last /dance

      Anyway,

      update:

      Installed IIS
Put the website in root (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Persians)
inbound port "80" forwarded to 192.168.0.2 (pc with website)
      Domain name forwarded to IP/Persians

but doesnt seem to be working =(

Just comes up with "404 Not Found
      File not found."

      also "http://127.0.0.1/persians/" works

Link here " Marmelstien Persians "

      Re: Webserver (minor)

I cant access it, But because you are "internally" connected to the network, You can only access it via http://"localhost" or http://"127.0.0.1"

I most probably cant access it because its a wee bit slow, But it comes up with the Meta name!

      Re: Webserver (minor)

      Nope

The site resolves to IP ending in 171.244

Yet your IP on here is: ending in 171.36

Have you definitely set the Dynamic DNS Service up right?
