Re: Sky Router Setup/Configuration

Have you connected your pc to the router via the ethernet cable?

Once you have connected the router via the ethernet cable to your pc, you should then be able to go into Internet Explorer and type the address used on the forum for the sky router, into the address bar.

This should then bring up a box where you need to type in the User Name and password for the sky box i.e. admin and sky

Try this and report back on what happens, unless of course you have sorted the problem out!

Can u ping the router from command prompt? If so then check ur firewalls allow u to browse by IP. If they do, reset IE7. Just a guess but 9 times out of ten the actual problem

Re: Sky Router Setup/Configuration

I just want to clarify. Once my line is activated all I need to do is check 192.168.0.1 to see if I am connected and thats it?

What about the username and password sky mailed me, are they just for email and the skybb website?

Thanks.

*edit seeing as I cannot delete this post*

The answer is yes, you just plug it in and it works. The username and password is for the Sky Broadband portal.

Thumbs up Re: Sky Router Setup/Configuration

Hi folks,

Please if you can help a retired, not too PC-literate man.

A few days back I have just subscribed, to Sky “max” Broadband package and now received their Sky Router; Netgear DG834GT/B.

Please advice how to connect and then configure to be connected to Internet using Int. Explorer. Currently I am connected to 4 PCs using Netgear 814; but using "hard wire (RG45) ". Ratti3, thanks for advice on wirelless Router.

Also have conveyed my Mac Key from PlusNet to Sky. So how long would they take to activate my line and how would I know that it is done. Because to communicate with Sky is almost impossible; even using their Premium Nos. Please keep up the Forum and the good work, as it is most valuable for people like me.

Thank you & God bless you all.
TandT.

Re: Sky Router Setup/Configuration

Hi, if you use the installation CD provided by Sky it has an excellent animation for showing non-techies which wires go where.

If you have a look in this post you can get an idea of timescales. At the moment I am the last poster there, so you can see how long it took me to get mine.

I'm not familiar with the netgear hub you mention, but the Sky router has 4 ports on it which may be sufficient for your needs.

Re: Sky Router Setup/Configuration

Hi Folks,

I need some help on the following.

Was previously for nearly 2 years, with another ISP (PlusNet); using Router Netgear 814; connected by hardwire (Ethernet), to four” Pc; ALL working fine. Joined Sky Broadband recently; had line activated last Sat.; installed the Sky Broadband CD and that PC has web connection. But other “three” DO NOT; even after using Sky CD on each PC

Checked and swooped around the Router Ports and also the cables but other PCs just complain, when Sky’s “IE” is launched displaying “this page can not be displayed”.
Hence, one PC works fine and is live with Internet but NOT the other three.

I do not think there are any hardware problems. But strongly feel that the Internet Connection needs new configuration on each PC, but Sky Broadband Tech. Team has not been of much help. I being not that PC literate am wandering if any of you can help and advise to get the other “three” PCs to connect to the net.

Keep up the good work and the site is fabulous.

Thanks & Regards,
tandt
