Question Sky Router Useing Other Bb Service

Can anybody please advise me, is it possible to use my sky router before being connected to Sky Broadband. I am currently still live with Toucan because of problems getting connected as with a lot of people. so I thought I would just try a streight swap with my existing router which happens to be a Netgear DG834, but I can't get onto my internet at all until I reconnect my existing one back in. ANYONE NO WHY.

Unfortunately you cannot use your Sky router with any other ISP.
Sky lock the Username and Password into it.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.
