      Released IP on Sagemcom - Red light on router plus device conflicts

      First, router info:

      Manufacturer Sagemcom
      Model Number F@ST2504
      Firmware Version 3.18Skya4G
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB038t.d24c

      This thing is old. Like 2009 old.

      There are four devices connected to the network. 3 wireless and 1 wired. I've had an issue before where if I change something about one of the devices (in this case, it was building a new machine), it creates a conflict in one of the others and for whatever reason, the network falls apart. This time it was quite bad and the router was showing a red '@', all four 1234 lights showed green and it wouldn't reboot or do a hard reset via the red button on the back. I tried ipconfig /release as I read something online about it potentially being an issue. It didn't work. I'm not advanced enough to know how or why it would/wouldn't work anyway so I shouldn't have been playing around with it anyway really.

      Called Sky. Not much help other than "It's old, we'll send you a new one in a few days". That's great, but not really identifying the problem.

      Last night I had switched all connected devices off. Today I switched the router back on. It managed to boot correctly. I was able to get my phone to connect to it. Tried a laptop. Connected, but only for a minute and then the same issue again.

      Shut the laptop down, reset the router again. Managed to connect wired device and phone and it's remained stable. Scared to turn on the remaining two wireless devices!

      Sky are already sending me a new router, but I worry that this problem will happen again on my network regardless of what router I use so anything you can suggest would be appreciated.

      Its unlikely to happen with a new router. Be patient and wait for the new one to arrive, then post again if you still have difficulties.

      Even if it doesn't happen on a new router, it would be nice to understand why it's happening on this one. I want to understand the problem.

      I think it is just a case of an old router failing. Unless you have given you devices the same fixed address, that is the only thing it can be.
