Do I have to have a wireless connection to my router if I have no LAN port? The engineer who installed my broadband said that because I had no LAN port on the back of my computer I had to have a wireless dongle.
Could the wireless connection (Netgear WG111T) be reducing my download speeds? I say this because when the icon in my system tray is green download speeds are far better than when the icon is yellow/red.

Hi Muppet, if you have no LAN port then yes, try putting the wireless to AUTO108 in your router, alternatively ethernet cards are so cheap, you could buy one and fit it yourself for undera tenner. Or about £20.00 fitted by your local PC shop.

Thanks for your reply on this and other threads Newsreader. Can you clarify what you mean by putting the wireless to AUTO108 in your router. How is this done? (idiot's guide please)

Or you could install a network card into your pc either way it is not expensive try this link
i would go for the pci network adapter card only £8 as you will benefit from full download speeds by using the wireless option you are limiting your download speedsI haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work.
