Yes, hold down the 'reset' button to fully reset the router.

The ethernet ports on routers can die, so you could be looking at replacing the router. You could give Sky a call and see if they are willing to send you a new router as you;ve had yours for 4 years.

Yes but it needs to be held in for at least 15 seconds. The reset process takes about 2 minutes.

If the reset button is the small button on the router you have to push in with a small pen point, then I did this on Thursday of last week, and it's made no difference to my problems with the LAN

Ok, well I'll give that a go,

So to be clear, if I do this , for at least 15 seconds then I just need to let the router reset itself? I don't need to turn it on or off again or anything?

I'm sure I held the button in last time for a fair bit, but I'm perfectly happy to try again

Will report back later on any progress or not

Otherwise I guess I'll have to call Sky and see what they say

I had no idea of this , just to check, I'll assume that when the ethernet ports are working as normal, and connected they should deliver similar speed if not better than the wireless

I've never ever come across this problem before, but it does make sense when you think about it

Re: My Wired connection is very very slow but Wireless is fine

Well I've reset the modem tonight, twice, but still LAN is very slow

Only thing I have noticed is that

IP Subnet mask for ADSL Port is 255.255.255.192

But for LAN it is 255.255.255.0

Otherwise , nothing else is changed, and who knows the change may have happened recently, but I didn't notice

I know I have not changed anything on the router myself

I'm a bit lost now, as still the wired connection is not working properly

Is the next step to talk to Sky now and say my router is not working properly?

I'll bet they ask me to do all these tests again anyway next time I ring them

      Any suggestions anybody?

Re: My Wired connection is very very slow but Wireless is fine

As a next step, I'm getting a mate to pop round later to hook up his laptop to my router directly using a new network cable which I bought this afternoon, in case I had a faulty (two) cables already.

I also tried to hook up to the router with a network cable, the new cable, and the result was the same, less than 2mbps, with the wireless it is invariably 11mbps or 12mpbs

I'll bet my mate tonight gets same result ,

I am not in a position to call Sky really until the weekend, but frankly I cannot think of much more I can do here,

I like the suggestion to "lie" and say I've done all the tests , which wouldn't be so much of a lie, as I have done them, it's just I know that they will ask me to do them again and make me jump through several hoops first.

Re: My Wired connection is very very slow but Wireless is fine

      Well folks,

      It was the cables,

I have purchased a network cable this afternoon and tested out this evening, a mate brought his laptop round and connected to my router easily and very quickly. I tried this on both my laptop and my desktop with the cable connected, and the speed was what was expected - i.e. 15mbps , not 1 or 2mpbs as with the old cables.

I just need to test the XBOX but I think we've solved this issue.

I will need a longer network cable which I can buy from my local Retailer , which should mean I don't need to talk to Sky at all about this.

Whoever said it was the cables, you were spot on.

The difference in speed, between the new and the old cables, was instant ,

I'm so glad I've sorted this out , and a little annoyed I didn't think to replace the cables last week , when I had spent about half a day on this

Still you live and learn I suppose

Thanks all for your input on this , it is very much appreciated.

      You were spot on mate!

      Thanks for your help
