      SKy Router lights

      Hi

Do any of the sky routers NOT show a light or lit number to indicate which ethernet port is being used?. Just been speaking to my brother and I remember his router being a piano black finish but that is all, and according to him there are only 3 lights visible on the front (power, wifi and internet).

      thx
      joe

Does he have anything plugged into the ports on the back of the router?
If YES Are these leads plugged into devices that are switched on?

They do not light up unless they are in use.

It sounds like he has the Sagem 2304n which is shiny black on the underside and dark grey on top. This being the case I have just done a quick test with mine to prove a point for him to check.

I have just plugged a Cat 5e Ethernet cable into one of the Ethernet ports and then plugged the other end into another Ethernet port. The lights at the front indicated that something was plugged into the two ports. I moved one end of the cable to different ports and each time the result was the same, with the obvious port numbers changing.

Turned out to be a dodgy ethernet cable.

Now I'd just like to get to the bottom of why his Attenuation is 5 higher than the house next door (a mate of mine).

Well done, the easy ones are nicer.

As for the Line Attenuation, remember to compare like-for-like.

Is the neighbour on ADSL2+? If the router the same make/model? Do they have a rand new line?

Not sure about the router model tbh, but my brothers is likely to be the newer of the two (supplied by Sky). They are both on Sky Broadband Unlimited. Lines will be of the same age.
