      Fibre Router

      Afternoon all,

I will be soon moving my Billion 7800N back into action as the router.

As the Sagem/Sky wireless is OK for smartphones is there anyway of using it as an Wireless AP? I'd supply the network wired, so no repeater stuff

      Cheers

      Nick

      Re: Fibre Router

If you wish to follow the guide I composed a little while ago, it should be fine. There are a couple of additional points you might like to be aware of first:
      • Members have found that the Sagem 2504N needs to be connected to a working Internet connection in order for any changes to be stored
      • I would suggest that you select 'ADSL' as an option for the Internet connection (the SFU version has 3 choices: Auto, Cable/Fibre & ADSL)

How to connect two Routers together

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

So your guide describes using the Sky router as the gateway to the net, then using a 2nd router as a wireless AP.

How about the Sky router just being a wireless AP?

I will be using my Billion connected to the OpenReach Modem, but the wireless is a bit useless at the end of the garden.

I've got a Linksys WAG325N that works as a Wireless AP but after a few hours it stops accepting the connection from the LAN.

So just curious if the router supplied by Sky will work as a Wireless AP.

      Re: Fibre Router

To be fair, it can work either way around.

I wrote the guide very specifically aimed at using the Sky router as the primary one since it reduced the potential for making it more complex. The options mentioned in the guide are available on the Sky router as well.

I'm not familiar with the Linksys WAG325N. I would check their forums to see if this is specific to the Sagem or occurs with others too.

      Hi,

The Linksys box is no more than a doorstop utter useless thing.

OK thanks I'll give it a shot, see if the Sky router is upto the job.

Well so far the Sky router won't be a wireless AP.

Only works if it's the internet gateway.

      Re: Fibre Router

Based upon comments from other members, it appears that in order to configure and for the router to retain any customised settings, you need to have the Sagem 2504N connected to an Internet connection.

I would assume that this needs to be a Sky Broadband connections, but I haven't read anything to suggest either way.

      Re: Fibre Router

There is no reason why it should not work. Just make sure it has an IP address in the same range as the Billion and that you turn off its DHCP server. Also remember to plug into one of its LAN ports, not the WAN port.
