2504N router issues, draining an ipod touch

Since i got Sky BB installed in January my ipod touch has started drainnig its battery overnight
i used to be with O2 BB and had a Netgear DG834G router. I had no issues with this setup

Im guessing the issue is with Wireless because if i switch off wireless on the ipod its keeps its charge.
With Wireless on , the ipod drops from 99% down to 20% in the space of 7 hours.

My wireless settings on the Sky Sagemcom Router are:

      Region: Europe
      Channel: Auto
      Mode: Auto

      and my Router Details is:

      Model Number; 5@ST2504n
      Firmware Version: 5.23.1a4N

is there a firmware upgrade or should i alter the channel and mode?

      Cheers

It is hard to see how the router can be to blame. All it is doing is sending out a wireless signal, it is not sucking anything from the connected devices. It is possibly the battery which is feeling its age. What is the point in having it switched on overnight? Are you a nighthawk?

Wireless will drain the battery in any device, including laptops, not just the iTouch. That is why it is recommended that wireless be switched off when it is not in use.

Ive just fitted a new battery and still getting major drain
i dont have the ipod on all night, i just hit the power button and it puts it into standby but even in standby its still draining.
like i mentioned before, if i turn of wireless on the ipod and put it into standby , its fine in the morning only dropping about 2%, but with wireless on it drops a good 80%
I use the ipod as an alarm clock so cant really afford for it to run out of battery!

I just find it strange that this only happened after i changed routers

I can't see much point in leaving the wireless on all night if it is not being used, but what you could try as an experiment, is to turn of the wireless in the router overnight. See if that makes a difference.

If that makes a difference, it is probably the router polling for attached devices, so it is possibly forcing the iTouch to use a bit of power acknowledging that it is still there. I would not have thought this would drain a battery though. It may help if you turn off UPnP. I think this is the only thing you can change on the Sky router which would make any difference.

Re: 2504N router issues, draining an ipod touch

I saw exactly the same issue. I have a DG834GT Sky router and various devices. Sky upgraded me the the 2504N router, which resolved some of the issues that I was having with disconnects and dropouts between my iMac and Apple TV. However, on the day that I installed the 2504N my iPhone battery started draining at a rate of 10% per hour, when not in use, but only whilst at home.

It took me a few a days to figure it out, but if I turn of wifi whilst at home, the battery is fine. I unplugged the 2504N and started using the DG834GT again and the iPhone batter has been fine. However, I now can't reliably use Apple TV anymore.

I'm stuck choosing the lesser of two evils.

Re: 2504N router issues, draining an ipod touch

I thought it was just me! Been driving me mad.

Nothing wrong with the iPod touch battery, it can last over a week in standby. The very day we installed the sky router the touch battery died overnight. I've likewise played around and found that if the wireless is off its fine but if I leave it on it drains fast.

Any advice on altering the router settings to leave my iPod alone?

I am going to test this theory.

I took my iPhone off charge at 100% at 8:30pm so will see how long it takes to go down 10%

As I said earlier, the only thing you can change is the UPnP setting, apart from turning off the wireless completely of course.

Tried that yesterday, gave it a full charge. Approx 30% 20 hours later with no use except standby with wifi on

Might phone sky and ask for a different router
