      Samsung Galaxy S2

      Hi guys and gals !
Im contemplating purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone , but have read some negetive reports regarding its wifi operation.
I have a Netgear 834GT which works effortlessly with 3 laptops.
Has anyone any experience of this combination ?
One tends to hear only of the bad experiences not the good ones on the net.
Would be most interested before I spend my precious pennies on this phone.

      Many thanks in advance
      Bret

      Re: Samsung Galaxy S2

My dad has the S2 and I can confirm that wifi throughput is noticeably laggy (considering it's got wireless n) and there are frequent disconnections too. I've got an SE Arc and wifi on it was terrible out of the box but they fixed it soon with an OTA (over the air) update.

I am guessing that this must have sent alarms down somewhere in the Samsung labs and they must be working on a solution but it could be a while before it gets fixed as these companies have very lengthy testing phases.

The launch of the Galaxy Note is around the corner. If samsung use a different wifi card in it in comparison to the one used in the S2 then it could be a clear indication of where things went wrong.

      Re: Samsung Galaxy S2

There is a beta version under test at the moment which is aimed at curing this issue, and others. Samsung wont give out beta versions for customers as they can kill your handset. Also, if loaded your handset will no longer be recognised by KIES unless you get an official release version loaded.

So far the beta is doing the job

If I remember (getting old - brain failing!) Ill let you guys know when the new firmware is available at service centres. It may, however, be available via KIES before I see the official version.

Google will point you in the correct direction for finding beta versions and the correct loading program.

Thank you all for your replies.
I decided in the end to buy a HTC Sensation XE as there are no such issues.
So far I have no issues and the wifi is brilliant, but Ill report back once I have all my emails etc etc set up. Once again, many thanks to all who responded.
