      Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

      Hi guys,

So, today is the day that apparently Sky is starting to offer their new 'N' router to customers.

Any idea how to get it? Do you just have to give support a ring?

      Cheers

I don't think they will supply them to BT customers.

Last I heard they were supplying it to new users as from today, but only making it available to existing customers from September, but that could have changed.

      I know

Someone I know is with BSkyBB and has one of the old DG834GT's and there are several factors about it which are shocking, so I was going to point him in the right direction.

      I'll stay tuned for September

New users are currently receiving the 2640s, even when on the Unlimited package.

They are so desperate to get rid of these antiques they sent me two by mistake.

Re: Sky's new Wireless 'N' Router...

Hi all..... could some one tell me if the firmware is about the same as the old router ? I'm not too fussed about the N side ( although it would be nice ) but want better firewall / IP blocking to control who can access what.....

      TIA

In terms of features, the new router is (1) wireless N; (2) supporting VDSL for future-proofing ahead of future fiber adoption; (3) WPS button/support.

I was also told that the number of allowed simultaneous wireless connections to the router will be greater than as was the case with the current Sky router (although this may just be a feature of the IEEE 802.11n standard, I do not know)

New customers will get it on new orders, existing customers get it for 35. Contrary to what I have read on forums elsewhere, existing customers who have signed up in the last 12 months and are in warranty on their current equipment WILL still have to pay.

Now that's a bummer for all those in warranty who were going to make their router die as soon as the new one was available.

If it was gigabit then i'd be getting one. In the meantime my V1 white sky router hooked up to my airport extreme will do.
