      Maplin high gain antenna

      Hi,

Just had sky installed, it seems the netgear isnt as powerful as my old d-link when it comes to wifi. I need to get the antenna up higher off the floor, anyone bought one of these extenders from maplin? Any good?

      thanks

      Paul

I have bought a wifi antenna from maplins although not that one. I use it on my PC rather than the router because the PC antenna is tucked up in the corner under a desk againt the wall (not an ideal place to radiate).

My signal strength went up from very poor to excelent and I always get max connect speed for my wifi network.

The antenna you spec is ok but only has a gain of 2.0 dB - not quite double the signal (3dB). for an extra 5.00 they do a 5dB gain antenna

This, i believe, would be a better buy

Thanks John, I think i`ll go for the one you suggested.

Yes I was going to fix mine to the computer, as like yours its tucked away under a desk , although I do get a signal strength of about 50-60%. Hopefully i`ll get similar results to you.

Thanks. sorted now. Picked up that 5gb aerial extension today, signal strength went from 50% upto 75%, now getting 2.5mb/sec downloads instead of 240k/sec.
