Random Wirleless dropouts dl-ing large files

      Hi there,

I'm a new sky customer (just switched from virgin). I've been having a few problems with my modem/router. I have the Sagemcom F@ST2304, and the 20 Meg unlimited connection package. Now wires are not an option in my house so wireless it is
Everything will be going fine (strong signal, good speed) then when downloading a large file (800 mb) it will suddenly drop connection at a random point. The SSID will still appear, but the router will not respond when i try to connect. Also on the router the '@' symbol which was green is not disappeared! I'm now on my second router having the EXACT same problem, I've had my line checked and its fine so any idea's guys?

Edit: When the connection drops the only way i can get the green '@' back is to re-boot the router!

      Thanks in advance!!

This is an issue with the router you have. Sky are in the process of rolling out an update to fix this. The firmware version of the update is 5.14.6.1a4N.

If your firmware version is any different at the moment you will just have to wait.

      My firmware is 5.14.6a4N
Is there nowhere to download and install this new firmware or get sky to send me out a specific router with it already installed or another model?
I'm at wits end and the wife & kids are screaming to go back to virgin

You can't download the firmware from anywhere and the replacement from Sky will be the same router. If you've got a spare ADSL router lying around we could try and have that up and running till Sky sort this out.

Re: Random Wireless dropouts dl-ing large files

Your safest bet for the present is to disable the WiFi on the Sagem 2304n router until you have the updated firmware.

This will allow you to have a relatively trouble free connection.

Don't use another router as the primary point to connect your Internet as the Sagem will not receive the update. Sky has stated that they should have all the routers in the field updated by 11th June.

In the mean time, if you need WiFi, then there is a guide which can help you to make use of an old router to share the Internet connection by piggybacking it to the Sagem 2304n.

How to connect two Routers together

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
