      Username and Password

I've been with Sky for years and have always used the Sky Routers, first the original Netgear White and now the Sagem Black (replaced the dead Netgear).

I want to move to N Dual-Band so will have to use a non-Sky router which means that I will need to enter my username and password in router configuration.

I know how to extract my username\password and I understand the contractrual\support issues. My question is slightly different.

When I had my White Netgear I extracted my username and password.

If I look at utilities for Sagem routers they generate username\password based on LAN MAC address and Default Network Key.

The latter suggests that you will get a different username\password for each router.

Indeed if I follow the instructions I get a different username\password than I extracted from my White Netgear.

      So my questions are

      (i) Is username\password linked to the Sky account or is it different for each router?

(ii) If the latter, should I use the latest one generated from the Sagem or the original extracted from my Netgear?

I should make it clear that the Netgear version was actually extracted from the router using HTML injection, but the Sagem version is using a generator.

      Many thanks,

      Nigel

In theory only your current router should be valid on the network but stranger things have happened.

      Re: Username and Password

The user name and password are unique to the router, not the line or user.

You can try either one, but you do have the advantage of being able to check the Netgear one in several ways, so you can be sure it is correct..

      Re: Username and Password

      Many thanks,

Do these generator programs generate a username\password that will work rather than the actual one that the router is using?

      Cheers,

      Nigel

      Re: Username and Password

It just displays the one being used by the Sky router, so you can use it on your new router

      Re: Username and Password

If the router supports it, is it worth changing the MAC addresses so that they match my current Sky router.

I'm not bothered about Sky T&Cs - it would be a very brave Sky guy who tried to get all contractrual with me - but if it would prevent rocking the boat in the first place then worth doing.

      Cheers,

      Nigel
