Question Can I use a non-Sky router with Sky b/band?

The title says it all... a simple Yes/No answer please.

The reason I ask is that the DNS addresses are fixed in the Sky supplied router & I would like to experiment with alternative DNS servers to try to improve performance.

There isn't particularly a 'simple yes or no'.

Yes, it is possible after extracting the user/pass out of the Sky router.
      No, it's against the t&c.

You can set the DNS servers in the individual devices if that is all you want to do. This over-rides the router setting.

It you are using the white dg834gt as shown in your profile, then it is possible to change the dns settings either via telnet or by using a shell exploit.

If you do have the GT, you could also use James' firmware, which gives you access to these an a lot more settings.

Simple answer: Yes you can. Problem with this it's against the terms and conditions.

Re: Can I use a non-Sky router with Sky b/band?

Seriously, the Sky Router (I have the Sagem) is crap! Not only does it use old 'G' technology as opposed to 'N', it also doesn't support the latest (WPA2) wireless security! That's completely unacceptable - as is the fact they throw the toys out of the pram if you decide to switch to a router that is actually, you know: GOOD!

Edit: Hmm, going by this thread, it doesn't look like a good idea:

Used another router sky cut me off :/

Sort your router out, Sky. It's rubbish and doesn't even support the latest security!!

See my other post regarding WPA2 and that Sky DO use it

As for wireless, change the channel as the Sagem on 'Auto' is rubbish

Would you be so good as to tell me to activate WPA2 on my router then? I can't see any options for it - only WPA.

Edit: Do you have a link to your WPA2 post?
