      Problems with Sagem router - red light.

      Hi guys,

      Hoping somebody will be able to give me some advice.

      I've been having issues with my Sky Broadband for a while now. All was fine for 6 months or so, reliable connection, decent speeds etc... but then it all started going downhill. Basically i've got one of their Sagem 2504 routers.

      I noticed that when i was on the laptop or Xbox Live i'd lose connection suddenly, and when i look over at the router the Internet light is orange and changes, very briefly, to red over and over again. Usually switching the router off and back on sorts the problem but it will reappear randomly, sometimes straight away, sometimes later. The manual for the router doesn't even mention the light going red, which seems odd.

      The trouble is that this is the THIRD router i have had from them and the same fault has appeared on all three. Even though the router looks pretty naff it seems unlikely that every one has developed a fault. The current one only came a week ago, and the one before only lasted 2 weeks! Each time i've phoned Sky they say the router's knackered and send me a new one.

      I have no extensions, just the master NTE5 socket and an NTE2000 faceplate (both installed within the last week so i could rule out the socket/microfilters as the cause).

      Unplugging the phone and Sky phone connection does nothing and i have no noise on the phone.

      So am i just REALLY unlucky with these routers, are they that unreliable or is there anything else i can try?

      hello basically a red light is a power failure.

      call sky say you are getting a red light on a sagem, and you need a new SAGEM power supply sent out.

      Change over for one of the PSUs that Sky have sent out. When a router is sent, a PSU will come also.

      Yep, you need to make sure you are using the PSU that was sent with the router as it is probably a faulty PSU and not a faulty router. The number of people that don't realise and just swap the routers is amazing but then if the Tech on the phone doesn't advise you to do it then I guess it's not a suprise when it's not done.

      Thanks for your replies - The thing is i have swapped the PSU over each time as Sky have specified that i do that, so it sounds like i've had three faulty PSU's? I'll ring them again, it's just such a challenge talking to them.

      is it definatly red? or amber/orange?

      The light goes solid orange, but blinks red for like a split second. Somebody else i was speaking too thinks it might be a PPP error, not sure what that means or how to solve it mind lol.

      solid amber is a issue with your connection to the network, try a 20 sec reset. however any sign of a RED light is a power problem

      Well, when it's working i'll have green power, wireless and Internet lights (and ethernet light if i connect that way). However, when it goes down the internet light will go orange and blink red, so it's a combination of orange and red light. Sky just tell me it means a faulty router but i find it unlikely that three routers have gone belly up so soon.
