Segam Router Nightmare- Vista . please help

      Hello Guys,

      Sky Segam Router

I’m really stumped over this one. A friend of mine has recently moved to sky. Everything in the house has connected wirelessly without an issue, mainly games consoles etc. The guys laptop has connected to the router, optains an IP address over DHCP but won’t ping.

      IP address assigned is 192.168.0.3.

When logged into the router using the hardwire, which works, the router show’s the laptop being connected wirelessly.

The guy has AVG AV and Zone alarm installed. I’ve closed both down but to no avail.

WPA-PSK is the security used, channel 6 and AES as encryption type.

The guys is running windows Vista, which I’m not massivly up to date with even though it’s out of date :P

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Main issue I've had with people calling about Vista and wireless lately is just the on board wireless adapters. Due to some kind of screw up with a Vista update, the majority can connect to the router wirelessly but not the network. Generally gives a timed out message when entering the network key.

I've just been guiding people to update the wireless adapter drivers in device manager, or failing that change to WEP.

But I doubt your problem is due to something that simple.

Update the wireless adapters drivers using the laptop manufacturers web site. The Device Manager method is often a waste of time as it will look to MS for the update and it will not necessarily be there.

It is never advisable to show email addresses on an open site, unless you want a lot of spam.

Perhaps sounds rather simple, but I'd change the encryption type from AES - TKIP.

start > control panel > network and sharing centre > on the left hand side click 'manage wireless networks' > right click your sky network and click properties > security tab > change to TKIP and ok.

Restart the system if needed and see if that helps.
