      Unusual router problem !

Hi, hope someone can advise on this one.

Using a DG834GT Sky router. Have severe wireless problems whereby none of the devices I have would connect, eventhough the network was found ok and accepted the WPA p/word. One PC is connected to the router via a yellow cable and this pc works ok. Have lost count of the times I have rebooted/reset the router with no success.....BUT today I pulled out the yellow cable and bingo, all the wireless devices connect no problem !! Anyone any idea why this is and is there a fix because currently the PC that uses the cable has no wireless card so will need to be reconnected at some point. Assuming here as soon as the cable gets plugged in it will knock out the wireless capability again.

Any help would seriously be appreciated.

      Many thanks

      Dex

Did you try it in a different port? It could be a faulty cable that is messing thing up. Plug one end of it into a port on the router and the other end into any other port. Do both lights come on? If not, the cable is faulty.

      Re: Unusual router problem !

Hi, no haven't tried any other port, it's always been in the first one of the 4. When you say plug it into any other port, do you mean on the router as well, ie both plugs of the cable going into 2 router ports?

Thanks for quick reply, appreciate it.

Cheers for that.....yep both lights come on so assume it's not a faulty cable now.

      Re: Unusual router problem !

      hmm

Im assuming the router is next to the pc since that cable is only a metre or two.

Is there anything else near the router/pc that could cause it, such as a TV, a aerial cable, a wireless phone?

Try running some anti-spyware software such as spyware terminator, and a virus scan, what is the pc's throughput?

Run a couple of speedtest on different servers at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test or use Skyuser's own speedtest Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

      and post the results.

Also visit 192.168.0.1, click statistics and copy and paste the bottom half of that.

(do this while the pc is connected via the yellow ethernet cable)
