      I dont understand this...

I got a new router from sky because their Sagem F@ST one was rubbish and always had slow download speeds, so I got the Netgear DG834GT.

When I had the sagem one, I had a netgear WGR614v9 piggybacking on it so I could get signal to my room (other side of the house) and around my area, I get 9.6MB/s according to my router statistics.

Using this DG834GT, I get 5 bars in my room without using the other router to extend the signal BUT i get 0.6MB/s download speed according to speedtest.net.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

speedtest.net is decent... Its given me accurate results every time ive used it...

My download speed was 50-60kb/s which is 0.5-0.6mb/s which is accurate.

Anyway, I went to my local Currys.net and bought a powerline plug kit and getting full speed now so no need to worry about this topic anymore

Speedtest.net is one of the worst speed test sites out there and can give out some amazingly inaccurate soeeds.

To get back to your original question.

Signal strength does not always mean signal quality. Try changing the channel in your Netgear. Go into the wireless settings and use the drop down box to change the setting from Auto 108 to 'g only'. You can go through each channel in turn, stating at 13 and working down or you can download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area. Set yours as far from those in use as possible.

Alternately, piggy back the WGR614v9 on to the GT as you did before.
