ADSL2 or ADSL, how to tell?

I signed up for the max package and have been connected for 3 days so far. It seems OK but I was expecting higher downstream speeds than reported by the router:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7645 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 24.8 db
Noise Margin 12.3 db 12.3 db

This is only marginally better than I was getting from my previous ISP (Plusnet) which was on ADSL.

Is there anyway of determining if I am getting ADSL2 or just ADSL?

Also what does the CD supplied with the router actually do apart from brand Internet Explorer? I did not want any branding so I uninstalled it. The CD contains the directory: 'DG834 Recovery Utility'. There is no documentation to explain what it is, does anyone have any ideas?

the cd isnt needed if you do not want whats on it.
the recovery utility is basically a program and flash to recover the router.

The recovery utility is if you have problems with the router and need to reinstall the router firmware I have not needed to use it so can't comment further but someone may be able to.

I'm not sure about this but if you are getting an upload of 766 you must be on adsl2 - isn't adsl limited to about 0.5MB?
