      Can't log into the router?

      Hi,
I'm trying to log into a sky netgear DG934G router using the LAN cable but it won't connect.
My computer tries to acquire a network address but then reports "Limited or no connectivity"

      Any ideas?

      Thanks.

Re: Can't log into the router?

win xp: start > control panel > network connections > right click local area connection > properties > double click tcp/ip internet protocol.
win vista: start > control panel > network and sharing centre > manage network connections > right click local area connection > properties > double click ipv4
win7: start > control panel > network and sharing centre > change adapter properties > right click local area connection > properties > double click ipv4

Is it set to obtain an ip and dns automatically, or is it set manually?

If automatic: a lot of the time just restarting the computer will force it to obtain an ip, but you could try setting them manually if not -

      ip address: 192.168.0.25
      subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      default gateway: 192.168.0.1

      preferred dns: 192.168.0.1
      alternate dns: empty

If it's set to manual already: set both the ip and dns back to obtain automatically.

Ok them and all should be connected.

Ok I done that and it was set to automatic, but restarting the computer didn't work.

So I entered the settings as your post & the computer connects to the router, but I can't log into the router using 192.168.0.1 the page just stays blank despite leaving it a while trying to connect.

      Thanks.

Make sure you are connected to the router by ethernet. Open a Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all. What addresses are shown. Copy and paste here if you are not sure.

      Hi,
What address are you after? as I don't know how to copy & paste from the command prompt screen.

      Thanks.

Re: Can't log into the router?

IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.

Also, in the command prompt type 'ping 192.168.0.1' and reply with the ping statistics (packets sent, received and lost).

To copy and paste from the CP, right click on the top bar, scroll down to Edit and select 'Select all'. Right click on the bar and again select Edit, this time select 'Copy'. Paste it where you want by right clicking and selecting 'Paste'.

Re: Can't log into the router?

      From the command promt screen:

      Ethernet adaptor Local Area Connection:

      IP Address..........192.168.0.25

      Subnet Mask........255.255.255.0

      Default Gateway........192.168.0.1

      The ping test:

      Packets sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4, (100% loss)

Have you tried a different ethernet cable?
Additionally try resetting the router using the reset button on the back!

Yes I've tried a couple of cables and done a reset with the button on the back.

      Thanks.
