Sync speed suddenly at 2MB/s after firmware upgrade(s)

      Hi,

Hope someone can shed some light ont this:

I have been with sky for several years now with the netgear DG834GT, and had a downstream connection speed of between 3200 and 2600 kbps and and upstream of about 796 kbps using the customer firmware 1.03.87 CU3.04.I managed this by setting the SNR quite low as my attenuation is rather high....

Due to some issues with the wireless on my daughters laptop I decided to try the DG Team firmware (V1.03.22 - DGTeam Rev. 1018). The upgrade was succesful and everything worked but when I looked at my sync speeds they had suddenly gone down to 2048 kbps down and 800 kbps up. Even changing the SNR percentage to less 100% doesn't seem to make any change to this. Thinking it was the firmware I then reloaded the 1.03.87 CU3.04 firmware. But now the router still syncs at 2048 kbps down and 800 kpb up, no matter if I put the SNR below 6.9 (e.g. 1db) or not?? I have tried rebooting, re uploading both firmwares several times, resetting the router via the web control pages and reset button but all makes no difference.

      Stats from the router:

      System Up Time 00:19:21
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 3092 3498 0 1136 3537 00:11:20
      LAN 10M/100M 7952 8532 0 4427 3368 00:19:18
      WLAN 11M/54M/108M 329 278 0 29 20 00:19:13

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2048 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 10.7 db 8.0 db

(This is with the SNR percentage set to as low as 24% so would have expected the Nois marging to be well below 6.9 db).

Ayone any idea what is going on? Is the router not using up the "low" SNR setting anymore?

Re: Sync speed suddenly at 2MB/s after firmware upgrade(s)

Looks like SKY and/or DLM have capped your speed and therefore stopped the router from syncing any higher. You need to give them a ring and get the cap removed before the speed will go back up.

Re: Sync speed suddenly at 2MB/s after firmware upgrade(s)

      Hi Simon,

I will try to get onto them then.... Seeing that my sync rate has dropped further to 1536 kpbs you are probably very right.... must have been a coincedence it happened whilst I was fiddling with the router....

Re: Sync speed suddenly at 2MB/s after firmware upgrade(s)

Update... just got a letter from Sky stating because I have extended my Broadband with them (effectively going from SKY Unlimited to SKy unlimited so no change.....) they need to test my line again..... I suppose there is nothing more to do than sit out the DLM period.... Not sure why tey want to test something that hasn't changed.....

Just to let you know a helpful Sky helpdesk guy has manually changed the line configuration and now back up to old speeds!
