    router wired connection problem............

      Question router wired connection problem............

      woke up this morning and turned the PC on and noticed it said a network cable has been unplugged, tried restarting the router, no luck, tried unplugging the ethernet and restarting the PC still no luck. however the wireless connection still works.

      if any one knows the solution to this problem i would be very grateful as i have a lot of course work to do....

      tried another cable/router? might be ethernet port on the pc

      Also try another port on the router. There are quite a few reports of these failing. Is the port light coming on?

      Test the cable by plugging it into 2 ports on the router, both lights should come on and flash.

      tried it, didnt work and i forgot to mention that the number one on my router flashes slowly when plugged in.

      Try resetting the router by pushing a pin into the reset button on the rear, hold it there for 10 secs or until the lights flash. If you do this you will loose your personal setting so use the Backup function of the router to save your settings to the Desktop, so they can be easily returned when the reset completes.

      if you mean plug both ends of the ethernet into the roter i did and the numbers came up solid green however when i plugged one end back into the PC the number again slowly flashed green and no connection was made by the PC

      In that case it looks like your ethernet card may be fault. Make sure the plug is pushed fully home.

      If still no luck, go to the Device Manager in your PC and look for any marks against the Network card.

      resetted it and it still persists to flash and no connection is made but the wireless still works

      do you know why the number where i plug the ethernet into flashes on and off? as im sure this isnt normal. and the enthernet port on my PC is on the motherboard

      do you know why the number where i plug the ethernet into flashes on and off?
      It would seem it is signalling a fault in the network card. What does the DM say?
