      wireless security issue

Hi when i look at the wireless networks on offer in my area when signing in to my broadband it shows my router e.g sky123456 security enabled network, connected, then a gold star next to it, below that it says NETGEAR, unsecured network, automatic, again with a star.

My question: I know NETGEAR is sky broadband as well, is it possible that both are mine and that im releasing an unsecured signal. I have to give a password to get on sky123456, but what is NETGEAR and why is it on automatic?

No, it will be a user near you using an unsecured network, which is pretty stupid. Have you tried logging on to it?

      Re: wireless security issue

I`ve not logged onto it, was just worried it was my signal as it was on automatic. Prob because my set up was not to the book, when i initially installed sky broadband from the cd rom as required, it kept bringing up an error message that nothing was being received. It was only after clicking onto the sky broadband icon that i eventually got on line, with the password. This led me to think that somehow my connection to my router was not properly set up.

Can you tell me where to find the log files or dchp client?

Log into your router by typing http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar, username is admin and password sky. You will find all the router setting there.

If you have not changed from the default network password you should do so.
