How can I tell if I can't get an LLU connection?

Mother had the 'Security Tool' infection recently and I cleaned out the PC completely. I have the above tools installed and also HiJackThis. I'll run them again to double check.

Speed does seem fine on my laptop as that's what she pays for. Even my HTC Hero was showing decent figures via Speedtest app.

I do think it's her old PC though as it's sluggish at the best of times. If a new laptop is purchased I may investigate adding some memory to the existing machine.

Canny wait to get back home to my 50GB.............

I have just noticed the stats you posted and I am sorry to say I think you are on Connect. This is indicated by the 448 upload. This can happen on an LLU service, but not very often. The connection will be severely limited by throttling from about 5 to10.30 pm each day and most of the weekend. The general advice to anyone on Connect is to leave and find an ISP who does not throttle so severely. If your in-laws do not game or try to stream video they may be OK with it. It is just about usable for browsing, but for anything else, forget it.

If they are in Erskine, they will definitely be on Connect as it is not a Sky enabled exchange. They do have the option of O2, who are very highly recommended. Try to convince them they should move there. I think it is cheaper than Sky, especially if they have an O2 phone.

Re: Newbie trying to install mothers Sagem.....

Is this not pretty poor on Sky's part then? Selling them something that basically doesn't work the way it should?

Yes they are in Erskine and recently upgraded to Sky HD and I thought it would be wise to have their TV, phone and broadband all in one.

I'm pretty sure my mother has an O2 mobile phone though. I doubt I'll be able to do much now until they are home and explaining all this to them will be a right laugh.

All they do is check e-mails and book b****y holidays though.......

Re: Newbie trying to install mothers Sagem.....

Nice link to melt my brain.

If it was me I'd be kicking up a fuss and moving but I don't reckon the folks would notice any difference (however it does grate with me after reading up on 'Connect'). I'll leave modem on for required 10 days and monitor the speeds.

Thanks again for all your assistance in these matters.

      Doug.

Re: Newbie trying to install mothers Sagem.....

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2329 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Your DSL Connection Rate :6080 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5000 Kbps

      Just done a BT test.

That is not a very good speed for the connection rate and profile. There is still something slowing down the PC. At this time you should be getting very near the profile speed.

Unfortunately if you run the test about 6 pm, during the peak time, you will be lucky to get 200kbps.

Here is one completed on the laptop via wi-fi.

I'm not too concerned about the PC as I know it's on it's last legs and getting Sky to send a wi-fi router was the first stage of mothers 'upgrade' plan!
