      Help with streaming please.

      Hi all,

Am I right in thinking that, although my Sky Netgear router is only 54g, it should be fine for streaming home videos from the attached NAS to my laptop which is literally 3 feet away? The reason I ask is that I'm scratching my head as to why when I try to watch a video, it stutters like mad!!

Any advice on router settings to overcome this would be greatly appreciated.

      Many thanks.

Does it work with a wire?

Try changing the channel on the router.

Hi Smithy - yes it streams fine when wired-up via ethernet. I will try changing channels and post back later.

      Many thanks.

      Nope!!!

I have tried several different channels and they all stutter badly when trying to stream.

I may have to go "bad boy" and install my trusty old D-Link "N" draft adsl router!

Any other options/ideas before I go bad? Surely 54g must be able to stream video from 3 feet away!!

Much of the slow down with wireless is down to security. Try turning off the security in the router and see if it improves.

Try downloading Inssider from the link below. This will show you any networks that may be interfering. Choose a channel as far from those in use as possible. Remember that channels 12 and 13 are usable, the latter often gives good results.

I wont ask why you are using wireless when you are only 3' from the router.
