surely sky will have to re-think their policy on using third party routers then! if your going to force someone to use your router then you cant make them pay for it, this is the primary reason sky currently replace out of warranty router free of charge.

for example it wouldnt be fair if sky said "you have to use the router we sell you" if you can get a router cheaper elsewhere or a router that has better value for money, like a better wireless signal or just a better lifespan(meaning you wouldnt have to keep paying sky 28 for new sagem router that break down in no time).

how reliable is this little birdie?

Easy, get your username and password and buy your own router. If they are going to charge for a replacement Sky can not really insist you use their's.

      a n router soon
And pigs might fly. I do believe that there is a new router on the horizon but no firm details.

As for the replacement router charge, that's not going to go down well.

i think maybe after the contracts finished people have been saying the routers faulty, leaving sky then flashing the new one/ selling it

Re: Sky to charge for Out Of Warranty Routers

      I can confirm this.
Just called Sky to replace my router which broke a couple of months ago. I have been using an old router since but thought I had better try and get a free once I read this thread!
Bloke said a replacement fee would apply but when he put it through it still came up free. He said Sky should be charging but the system hasnt been refreshed.

Re: Sky to charge for Out Of Warranty Routers

I had a call from Sky Protect tonight trying to sell me the extended warranty, which he said would also cover my Sky wireless router that will now be chargeable if it fails.
I asked if it would cover me for my O2 wireless router
