Thinking of moving from O2 to Sky?

Based on the '6 months free' deal, I'm close to migrating to Sky.

I just have one question. Is there any certainty in terms of which Router I'm likely to receive? Ideally I'd like either Netgear, has anyone with any recent experience able to comment on this?

      Thanks in advance
      Pete

You get whatever they have to send out at the time, you can piggy back another router to it if needed to keep inside the T&C's and there are also ways to extract your details if needed to completely swap the router.

thanks Smithy, one other question if I may. Has your router got a DMZ that you could put a games console into? It's one of the main reasons I'm looking to move away from O2, their Wireless Box is pretty crap and affects my online PS3 gaming. Cheers Pete

Yes it has DMZ but you shouldn't need to use it, also if you are using wireless for gaming that is a real problem anyway, much better wired or with homeplugs.

O2's router is pretty good and if I remember correctly has some setting ready to run for certain games and consoles.

Customer support is better too so not much to choose between then price wise but to be fair, I have baan happy with Sky for the last 2 years.

Don't forget O2 will allow you to use your own router also pings on Sky are way higher than O2 and all that Sky will offer you is a drop in your max delays.

For gaming going to Sky from O2 is a bit of a backwards step.

To be fair to Sky, I have noticed no difference in gaming on o2 than Sky, yes I now have a ping of about 23 instead of 35 but there is just so little difference, I doubt you would notice. Obviously I did have my Max_Delays lowered on Sky initially though.

Re: Thinking of moving from O2 to Sky?

my pings were around 100-120 on multiple games, whereas I get 20-30 on O2.

The easynet network seems to have good and bad postcodes with varying pings.

Re: Thinking of moving from O2 to Sky?

i've just about moved over to O2 (premium) broadband, just because of the price increase from sky, i've an O2 moble anyway so it's a bit cheaper that it is just now. didn't really have a problem with sky BB at all.

i did read on here someplace (canny find it) that the sky router reflashed with netgear firmware is better than the O2 wireless box, is this right?
