Strange entry on my 'Attached Devices'

      Hi all,

I have just taken a look at the 'attached devices' on my router and I have an entry that is listed as below that seems to report itself using stange small letters and signs

      IP Address - *x>
      Device Name - )

The MAC address looks as I woulld expect but I really would like to know what this device is.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks all

Is it one of your own devices? Check by turning them off one at a time and refresh the Attached Devices page each time. Is your wireless secure?

Re: Strange entry on my 'Attached Devices'

It does not seem to be one of my devices.

      I have -

      PS3
      PC
      Netbook
      iPhone

these all have their own obvious entries on the connected devices list.

Is there any way I can resolve a MAC address into a IP address?

My wireless is secured with WPA-PSK encryption and the SSID is hidden.

Any suggestions or advice would be great!

I guess Icould use MAC address filtering on my security settings?

The first part of the MAC address is the vendor ID, If you put the address here, it should identify the maker and may may help identify the device.

Re: Strange entry on my 'Attached Devices'

Thanks for the link, I have just checked and it is a Nintendo device.

I forgot that my Financee has a Wii!

I have now unplugged it, rebooted the router via the admin console, not the switch.

      The device remains!

      Any more plans

Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Strange entry on my 'Attached Devices'

I think it is possibly the Wii which is still registering, wireless? To be absolutely sure, change your WPA key. It may be a bit of a hassle changing your devices, but it may be worth it for your piece of mind. You could also put your wireless devices into the 'Wireless stations access list'.
