On a white netgear router it is suddenly telling me that a network cable is unplugged. It isn't, I've tried a different cable. So I can't even access the router itself.
Working fine when switched off last night.

This is usually caused by a poor connection, either at the router or the adapter. Try turning your cable end to end and plug into a different port in the router. Check if the the port light is lit and is green.
Have a look at your Windows updates and see if your network drivers have been changed by an MS update. If they have roll them back to the previous driver.
