      Thomson Speedtouch ST585v6

      Hi

Was given one of these as a backup router to my Netgear V1. Just wondering if anyone has used one of these over the netgear, and was it better/worse/indiferent?. Also trying to find if it shows the SNR anywhere in its system information.

      thanks
      joe

They are nice routers but let down by poor wireless performance, the aerial is very poor just a wire inside what looks like a proper aerial. You can view all line functions once it is synced, and you can change the DNS servers using telnet if you wish.

Once you are in the black command prompt box type in

      telnet 192.168.1.254

It will ask for user and password, on the 585 these default to Administrator and no password, just hit the return key.

The commands are (assuming Open DNS)

      dns server route add dns=208.67.222.222

      dns server route add dns=208.67.220.220

      saveall

      exit

Cheers Brian. I have managed to find the details now from the routers own management page. Switched it on this morning and getting a possibly useful 1db increase on my snr, over what i would normally see on the netgear. Think i will be sticking with the speedtouch and see how it goes. I dont really use wireless that much, although its a shame it doesent have a screw mount for a TPlink aerial i have spare.

There not bad routers over ethernet but wireless throughput is pretty poor
only used to get 10ish mb with a dsl 20mb sync even with full signal and it reporting
      a link speed of 54mbps.

The newer TG585 o2 box was the same aswell.
