      Slow Router Speeds - help!

I have recently been sent a new router after my old one failed completely, I think it is a Netgear (V2? - it is a small black box this time rather than the white one of my original router).

Since using this new router I have been experiencing very slow broadband
speeds, if I open a second tab while in Explorer it often doesn't connect. When on the internet, I can get onto my e-mail. It doesn't seem to be able to cope with more than one thing. If I have any videos it is extremely slow.

Nothing else in my set up has changed from before (I'm running my laptop wirelessly, my router is connected to a socket upstairs) My previous router used to work at pefectly using htis set up and I don't think I have any problems with my line. Sky did all sorts of checks when my last router broke down and the line was fine.

      My settings are as follows:

      Firmware Version V2.02.34

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 6.02.01.00

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 64 kbps 64 kbps
Line Attenuation 18 db 5 db
Noise Margin 31 db 7 db

      Any help would be appreciated.

OK, first thing to check. If you have a test socket, plug your router into this and repost your stats, you'll find the info here: How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket.

Either way, make sure that nothing but your router is connected to the phone line via the microfilter provided, also make sure that the microfilter is the first thing connected to the socket, do check that if you have a Sky box you're not connected via its telephone extension splitter cable.

your line has been capped by either dlm but most likely left that way after previous trouble shooting call tech support and ask for ticket to be created for higher level (CST) as they will have to uncap the speed

Connect to the test socket if you have one and post the stats from there on here, something is not quite right with the upstream SNR.

Re: Slow Router Speeds - help!

Thanks for everyone's help so far!

Ok I've plugged my ADSL splitter directly into the test socket and then linked it to my laptop using the ethernet cable rather than going wireless, just to make sure.

Nothing else was plugged in at all.

      The stats are:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 229 211 0 42 153 00:12:40
      LAN 100M/Full 699 728 0 390 93 00:17:41
      WLAN 11M/54M 115 0 0 21 0 00:17:27
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 64 kbps 64 kbps
Line Attenuation 18 db 5 db
Noise Margin 31 db 7 db

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 6.02.01.00
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 64 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 64 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

So still the same down and upstream speeds.

I assume you've recently had to call up sky due to a no internet light/no sync issue? You've been set to baseline settings for testing and accidentally haven't been uncapped it would seem. Call up sky and ask for the line to be configured back to what it should take.

Edit: Just noticed the upstream snr - that's very low for the speed. Still, I'd call sky back and I assume that there is an open ticket on your account for cst so you should be passed through to them to get it sorted.

If you haven't done so, check that everything connected is going through a filter. If you have a spare one, swap them around and see if it makes any difference to your upstream noise in particular.

You would get the maximum on Everyday and pretty close to it on Unlimited, should you want to change.
