900 metres from a big city exchange and only getting 3Mb instead of 8Mb

      Can you help?
I've just moved into a brand newly built house thats only 900 metres from the SHARROW exchange. I've got an openReach faceplate and i've removed all possible noise contributing devices from the line. I've tried 2 different POTS and also no POT but still no change. 3072Mb connection with 2600Mb bandwidth. I'm on SKY Max/Everyday 8Mb service. The connection remains at 3072Mb at anytime of day (router rebooted regulary for testing). Is the problem my old Netgear DG834GT (ver 1.03.87 )??

The connection seems stable just low.

p.s. the broadband only went live yesterday.

As would have been explained in your activation letter the starting speed for all Mid/Everyday customers is 3mbps. Once DLM kicks in over the next few days this will change to what your actual speed should be, dependant on your line length and quality.

That explains things, many thanks. Also thanks for the DLM info, i now know all about that technology. I must train my dog to read the post before eating it. Thanks again.

Don't reboot your router, in fact, don't even turn it off, as DLM may see this as a fault and cap your line accordingly. Leave it running 24/7, at least until DLM completes its training.

Post your stats if you are interested in an estimate of what you should get. Quick links box on left.

By the way, the Everyday package now goes up to 10Mb.
