      What's the problem?

Okay; my friend is with Sky Mid (Everyday), these are his stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3069 kbps 252 kbps
Line Attenuation 12 db 4 db
Noise Margin 30 db 2147483647 db

Whenever the phone is being used, or starts to ring, the internet drops out. An engineer is coming tomorrow to sort the problem. I am just curious to what it is.

      External line problem?

      Possible high resistance fault.

The openreach engineer should hopefully pick up on it and sort it.

      Re: What's the problem?

A negative upstream noise margin can often be caused by faulty filters, as can drop outs when the phone rings. I hope he checked these before calling in BT or he could be in receipt of a large bill.
