It won't if the PSU has failed, if the router can be contacted on the recovery IP (the 192.168.1.1 address) then it can be recovered sometimes. If your PC is not reacting to the ethernet cable mention this to the agent as that would point to failed hardware.

I don't think the Sagem Recovery Utility or the image is available on the Sky site. Unless you have managed to locate them? As you say, apart from these the disk is a waste of time.

You don't need the CD unless the FW fails, that's the only place the FW is at present. The Security software is on the Sky.com site and that's basically all you need (if you need even that). The CD has tutorial screens that show how to connect equipment up and what to plug in where, past that point everything is optional anyway.

Re: Sagem router broken/frozen, help please.

Well I phoned Sky last night with this problem and they're sending me a new router. The guy on the phone didn't try and send me a CD or make me try anything that obviously wasn't going to work, so all in all a good service.

When the new router arrives (in "3-5 working days") they also pick up the old one for "testing", which I'm sure actually means "binning"

They will probably send it back to Sagem and ask them why it's not working properly since they paid them for a fully operational unit working to a set of specified tolerances.

This must be a new process, probably due to the thousands of routers which have not been returned. Maybe they have woken up to the fact that replacing routers without getting the 'faulty' one back is costing them a fortune. They must be entitled to reimbursement by the suppliers, just like any other buyer, they have obviously not been getting this. Most other ISPs require the faulty one to be returned before they will replace it.

Maybe Sky have woken up to the WEE regs , which require them to dump/recycle the old one, or at least offer to.
